Gunasheela Axon – Child Developmental Center
In the recent past, with all the progress we have been able to make in high-risk pregnancies and neonatal care, what has emerged is an increase in the number of babies being born and surviving amidst risk factors that were otherwise a question of life and death. This has led to a higher number of children who survive but struggle to thrive and reach their full cognitive potential after battling these risk factors.
We now have a better understanding of brain development and the importance of sensitive periods, which mandates the scientific community to focus on early intervention to help these tiny humans — who battled death — achieve an improved quality of life with minimal developmental delays. A child developmental center caters to this very need: to support the growing brain, make the best of the critical window periods / sensitive periods, achieve milestones, and minimize deficits across all domains of development — physical, social, and cognitive.
This is achieved through a team of professionals headed by a neurodevelopmental pediatrician, along with physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, special educators, and child psychologists — all working as an integrated team focused on brain development. By minimizing deficits, improving quality of life, and supporting each child to explore the full potential of their cognition, we can help children grow into independent and meaningful contributors to society, rather than dependent individuals who add to the burden of the future.
