- Gunasheela Surgical & Maternity Hospital established by Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr. Mavalli Gunasheela.
- 1st to introduce Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Karnataka.
- 1st to introduce Hysteroscopy in Karnataka.
- 1st to introduce Laparoscopic treatment in Karnataka.
- Established South India’s first IVF Centre with R&D.
- The 1st ART baby in South India was born at Gunasheela on December 5th, 1988.
- 1st IVF through Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
- Introduced a Clean Room System in laboratories, engineered to American FDA Standard Class 10 K.
- 1st In-Vitro Maturation (IVM) baby in India conceived at Gunasheela.
- 1st to publish three international articles back-to-back from India on human blastocyst hatching.
- Established Hita Pharma with world-class Iceline cold storage to maintain the cold chain for medicines.
- 5th baby in the world by vitrification of IVM oocytes conceived and born at Gunasheela.
- 1st Embryo Scope pregnancy in South India (twins born 1st Feb 2013).
- Listed among the “Top 10 Best Hospitals in India” — The Week, Hansa Research 2012.
- India Health Care Award for Best Single Specialty Hospital in India — CNBC-TV18 & ICICI Lombard.
- Won the India Health Care Award for the 2nd time.
- Started Fertility Preservation for cancer patients on a charitable basis.
- Dr. Devika Gunasheela awarded ICOG Fellowship.

- 1st Vitrified PGS normal pregnancy in a blind couple.
- Dr. Devika Gunasheela becomes Chairperson, ISAR Special Interest Group — Fertility Preservation.
- Installed RI electronic witnessing system (RFID).
- Obtained NABH entry-level Certificate.
- Started ‘Aadya Human Milk Bank’, a non-profit unit in association with Rotary Club.
- Opened operations at Ballari as Gunasheela Girija Fertility Centre.
- Collaborated with the Indian Centre for Endometriosis for deep infiltrative endometriosis cases.
- Started Gunasheela Axon — nerve regeneration therapy for kids.

Gunasheela
The story of Gunasheela Hospital began with the inspiring vision of Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela. She aimed not only to practice medicine but to enrich families with the joy of childbirth. Deeply moved by the struggles faced by couples with infertility and pregnancy challenges, Dr. Sulochana was driven to explore deeper into medical science for answers. This journey was fueled by the birth of the world’s first IVF baby, sparking a hope-filled question: could this life-changing technology be brought to India to aid those in need?
Determined and passionate, Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela pursued specialized training in Assisted Reproductive Technology at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA. Her steadfast commitment transformed her maternity home into the innovative Gunasheela Fertility Centre in 1985, marking a new era in South India with its advanced reproductive technologies. The centre achieved a remarkable milestone with the birth of South India’s first IVF baby on December 5, 1988, forever changing the landscape of assisted reproductive technology in the region.
